Job Description:  Associate System Safety Engineer
Our client is one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 company. We are hiring an Associate Systems Safety Engineer to assist with our combat vehicle programs for evaluating design changes and modifications for safety implications and recommending improvements where feasible.
In this role, you will interact closely with lead safety engineers and design engineers.
Potential programs to support include: the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV), Bradley Family of Vehicles, M109 Howitzers, and Recovery Family of Vehicles.
The Associate Systems Safety Engineer:
-- Uses engineering and scientific principles, logic, and defined procedures, to complete tasks in straightforward situations with supervision.
-- Performs basic engineering design, development, analysis, experimentation, test and/or product assurance tasks of limited complexity for assigned portions of a project.
Ensures tasks meet cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
-- Applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory, principles, techniques, and practices to a limited portion of a technical project.
-- Develops and writes technical documentation, makes revisions to existing documentation, and provides input to technical papers or presentations.
-- Performs basic technical analysis, testing, calculations, and evaluation of results using specialized equipment and/or by computer programs. -- Analyzes and interprets design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications and product requirements. -- Develops and maintains effective relations with peers and external customers to solve technical problems and implement solutions of limited complexity. -- Acquires and maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering discipline(s), industry practices, trends, and applications.

Skills Required:  Associate System Safety Engineer
-- Bachelor of Science in STEM field, ideally Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Software Engineering with a 3.0 GPA minimum.
Will consider May 2023 grads.
-- Entry level knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a relevant technical field of specialization.
-- Familiarity with current computer applications (Microsoft Office) and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.
-- Strong written and oral communication skills.
-- Ability to solve basic technical design and development problems.
-- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers to solve technical problems.

Skills Preferred:  Associate System Safety Engineer
-- Experience using MIL-STD-882 (Department of Defense Standard Practice for System Safety).
-- Prior experience conducting analyses, to include: System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Health Hazard Analysis (HHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), etc.
-- Experience tracking mitigation implementation and working with the government customer to both assess and accept final product safety risk for each of the hazards.
-- Ability to evaluate software for safety impact to an overall system.
-- Experience evaluating requirements for safety impact to a system.
-- Experience reviewing and evaluating Parts and Installation Drawings.
-- Experience reviewing and evaluating electrical circuit diagrams.
-- Engineering experience with relevant applications in a defense environment.
-- Specialized technical knowledge of relevant military and commercial design standards.
-- Experience using MIL-STD-1472 and MIL-STD-1474.
-- Experience in Specialty Engineering (Reliability, Maintainability, Human Systems Integration, Environmental, or Diagnostics).
-- Experience in the application of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools.

Education Required:  Associate System Safety Engineer
 -- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Software Engineering) or equivalent experience as a substitution for education.
