Principal Systems Engineer
Location: Santa Clara, CA
Hourly rate: $75.00 - $80.00

The Principal/Senior System Engineers focus is on improving reliability and robustness of the microfluidics electrochemical sensor device through failure analysis, root cause investigations, and identifying and supporting implementation of solutions. The candidate will be a technical contributor on long-term, complex and novel projects that require ingenuity, creativity and technical expertise. The candidate is someone who does not shy away from a difficult problem, but seeks it out.

The chosen candidate will become an expert on the operation, theory, and data analysis from the new Single Molecule Sequencing platform. Drawing on experience in systems, biochemistry, electrochemistry, and/or materials science, the System Engineer will design and execute experiments on the sequencing platform and will help develop and analyze microfluidic device surfaces, interfaces, and processes. The System Engineer will analyze and succinctly present experimental results with actionable next steps identified related to the robustness of the microfluidic device and the system. The candidate must be self-motivated, details-oriented, and able to work well in a team.

Responsibilities:
•    Become an expert on the operation of the High Throughput Sequencing Platform.
•    Collect, manage, and identify initial evaluations for device failure issues identified by users.
•    Clearly and timely communicate and collaborate across system, device, instrument, and reagent teams in root cause investigation findings and solution implementations.
•    Help design, troubleshoot, and perform instrument and microfluidic device development in a fast-paced environment.
•    Good understanding of statistical methods.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required:
•    B.S. with 5+ years of experience or M.S./PhD with 3+ in a Bioengineering, mechanical/electrical engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, or surface/materials discipline.
•    Industry troubleshooting experience in development or operations of microfluidic sensors and/or diagnostic systems. Experience in failure analysis and/or defect management is a plus.
•    Understanding of sequencing methodologies.
•    Ability to perform statistical analysis of data with programs such as JMP, R, etc. Familiarity with computer programming in languages such as Python is a plus.
•    Meticulous attention to detail and excellent written and electronic record keeping skills.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills.
•    Self-motivated and able to work well in a team.
