About the Role
We're seeking a motivated Scientist II to join a cross-functional scientific team supporting biospecimen acquisition and biological material management. This is a hands-on, lab-based position focused on ensuring high-quality biological materials are available to support the development and launch of diagnostic products.

This role is part of a centralized service team that provides expert support in acquiring, characterizing, and handling human specimens, microbial strains, mammalian cell lines, and custom-built panels for clinical research.

What You’ll Do
As a Scientist II, you’ll take ownership of lab-based responsibilities that ensure timely and accurate delivery of biological materials. Your day-to-day work will directly impact project teams by providing essential resources for product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently carry out laboratory procedures involving human cell lines, microorganisms, and other biological materials.

  • Use standard microbiology techniques to culture and maintain diverse bacterial isolates under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions.

  • Optimize microbial growth and ensure banking and sample delivery to clients meet quality standards.

  • Apply scientific knowledge to troubleshoot and suggest improvements to existing protocols.

  • Lead or contribute to projects, plan your own work, and deliver on key milestones with minimal supervision.

  • Analyze results, summarize findings, and communicate outcomes through reports and presentations.

  • Maintain accurate electronic records in validated systems and follow documentation standards.

  • Adhere to internal safety protocols and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, ISO, QSR).

  • Participate in lab maintenance and uphold safety and compliance standards.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Cellular Biology, or related field with 4+ years of lab experience, or

  • Master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant lab experience.

  • Hands-on experience with aseptic techniques, bacterial or cell culture, and microbial enumeration (e.g., MPN).

  • Comfortable working under BSL-2 conditions with infectious materials and human-derived specimens (e.g., blood, stool, serum).

  • Able to manually handle samples—plating, pipetting, labeling, and vialing—on a routine basis.

  • Strong understanding of good laboratory, data, and documentation practices.

  • Proven ability to work both independently and within collaborative, fast-paced team settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience culturing bacteria in anaerobic chambers.

  • Familiarity with MALDI-TOF identification and microbial taxonomy.

  • Exposure to LIMS systems and electronic lab notebooks (eLN).

  • Knowledge of ddPCR and project management best practices.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.

  • Client-facing or cross-functional collaboration experience is a plus.
