Systems Engineer

Hourly rate: $40.00 - $48.00

Seeking a motivated and team-oriented individual who is passionate about next generation sequencing technology. The System Engineer’s focus is on improving reliability and robustness of the sequencing and sample prep platforms through failure analysis, root cause investigations, troubleshooting and identifying and supporting implementation of solutions. The candidate will be a technical contributor on complex and novel projects that require ingenuity, creativity and technical expertise. The candidate is someone who does not shy away from a difficult problem, but seeks it out.
Drawing on experience in systems, biochemistry, electrochemistry, electromechanical and/or materials science, the System Engineer will be part of the troubleshooting team and will be responsible for supporting the next generation sequencing system and the sample prep platform. This support role will require the candidate to be able to work in a fast-paced environment typically supporting more than one issue at a time. The candidate must be self-motivated, details-oriented, and able to work well in a team.
Responsibilities:
• Become an expert on the operation and functionality of the Sequencing Platform and Sample Prep platform to ensure minimal system down time.
• Work with the engineering teams on resolving discovered issues and propose solutions to common failure modes.
• Support the lab teams with system troubleshooting both at the hardware/software level and the assay level.
• Execute experiments and testing protocols to ensure platform functionality.
• Clearly and timely communicate and collaborate across system, device, instrument, and reagent teams in root cause investigation findings and solution implementations.
• Help design, troubleshoot, and perform instrument development in a fast-paced environment.
• Good understanding of statistical methods.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Required:
• B.S. with 2-3+ years of experience or M.S with 1+ in a Bioengineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, or a related disciple.
• Troubleshooting experience in development or operations of microfluidics, liquid handler, diagnostic systems, NGS systems. Experience in failure analysis and/or defect management is a plus.
• Understanding of sequencing methodologies.
• Ability to perform statistical analysis of data with programs such as JMP, R, etc. Familiarity with computer programming in languages such as Python is a plus.
• Meticulous attention to detail and excellent written and electronic record keeping skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work well in a team.
• Willing to work in a lab setting.
